How to pick a roofer

  1. Start with roofers who work near you. Pick a city above. Recent permits there mean they know the area and its rules.
  2. Get 3 quotes. Quotes for the same roof are often far apart. Three show you what's normal.
  3. Read their reviews. Each roofer has a link to their Google reviews. Check the Better Business Bureau too.
  4. Ask for their insurance certificate. Call the insurer to check it.
  5. Get the quote in writing, with the shingle brand and product line. Never sign a contract with blank spaces.
  6. Don't pay the full price up front. Make the final payment when the work is done.
  7. Never let a roofer pay or waive your deductible. It's illegal in Texas.
  8. Ask for the permit number once the job is filed.

Steps 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 follow the Texas Department of Insurance's advice after a storm. We don't vouch for any roofer. This list reports public records, and records can be incomplete. Roofers can ask us to fix their record.

How to read this list

  • Who is listed. Roofers with 4 or more re-roof permits in these cities since 2021. Each row shows their permits in the last 12 months and since 2021, counted in Fort Worth, Arlington and Southlake (or in the city you pick). A roofer's own page also shows their permits in all the DFW cities we track, so its totals can be bigger.
  • Permits. Fort Worth asks for a permit when some of the wood under the shingles is replaced, so a shingles-only job there may have none. Many roofers file anyway: about 6 in 10 Fort Worth permits mention new wood. So these counts are not all of a roofer's jobs.
  • On permits since. The year of the roofer's first re-roof permit in our records. Our records start in 2021.
  • Maker programs. Shown when Owens Corning or CertainTeed's own directory lists the roofer.
  • Not listed? A roofer with fewer permits isn't listed. That doesn't mean they're bad.
